These are some of the appliances that may be used to obtain the best results. Dr. Lopatkin will inform you if appliances are necessary for your particular treatment case.
In order to create your perfect smile, often appliances can be used alone or in conjunction with braces. Alone they can often prepare you for a shorter time in braces or used with braces can speed treatment time and improve overall results. We also provide instructions on all appliances.
A TAD (Temporary Anchorage Device) is a miniature temporary implant screw that is positioned in the mouth. It serves as an anchor for moving specific teeth in the most controlled and predictable way possible. TAD's are made of sterile medica-grade titanium alloy. They eliminate cumbersome appliances (e.g., headgear) and allow us to treat certain cases better and faster than ever before.
Elastics (Rubber Bands)
Wearing elastics (rubber bands) improves the fit of your upper and lower teeth.
The Forsus is an appliance that helps to correct a class II excessive overjet (upper teeth to far in front of the lower teeth). Forsus is a fixed appliance worn 24 hours a day, requiring less patient compliance than traditional rubber bands or head gear.
Headgear is used to treat patients whose teeth are in an "overbite," (the upper teeth lie too far forward over the lower teeth) or and "underbite," (the lower teeth are too far forward or the upper teeth are too far back) Headgear gently pulls on your teeth to restrict further forward growth of your upper teeth and jaw.
The palatal expander "expands" (widens) your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time and adjustment is made. Your orthodontist will instruct you about when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to hold expansion and to prevent relapse.
